EFFECT OF PERCEPTION OF NEPOTISM AND EMPLOYEE SATISFACTION ON TURNOVER INTENTIONS: AN EMPIRICAL STUDY IN HOSPITALITY ENTERPRISES

Abstract

Nepotism is believed to have important harmful effects on employee satisfaction. Nepotism's effect on employee satisfaction and turnover intention is investigated in this research. Data is gathered from 167 employees of hotels in Çanakkale Province. The questionnaire was formed using Abdalla et.al. (1998), Weiss et.al. (1967) and Grandey (1999). Results obtained by execution of data indicate that promotion dimension of nepotism increases employee's intention to quit; operational nepotism reduces employee satisfaction by business operations and sense of achievement and recruitment nepotism reduces sense of achievement. On the other hand, it is found that satisfaction dimensions business operations and sense of achievement reduces turnover intention. Therefore, turnover intention is effected positively by nepotism and negatively by employee satisfaction.
