Abstract

The situation that makes emotional labor a priority is the necessity of using emotion in service sector. Among the service sectors, the sector in which emotional labor is shown a lot is the health sector. Individuals in need of health care need a lot of support for the stress and emotional changes brought about by their illness, even if we think they are physically uncomfortable. This situation causes the healthcare workers to feel emotionally down. With these difficulties experienced by the healthcare workers while serving, healthcare workers’ performance decreases and their intention to leave relatively increases. In this study, emotional labor dimension and employee performance affect the general dimension negatively, and it is found that the general dimension of quitting the job and the result were positively and significantly related. Emotional labor and its sub-dimensions negatively affect the performance of employees working in the health sector and increase their intention to leave.
