Abstract

On issues about trimming material, it has generally been presupposed that the size of the raw material will be a known quantity. Either how to have least waste in the form of unusable small material has been studied or how to cut the material most effectively has been focused on. However, almost no research has looked into how to obtain the raw material most effectively in the most efficient sizes. However, starting the issue from its beginning and determining the most efficient sizes for the raw material and then going onto the other stages has an importance in preventing waste and lowering costs. The purpose of this study is to develop a model which will keep wastage low while helping businesses who will keep spool widths lowest gain most. For this purpose, an algorithm using Particle Swarm Optimization has been developed. In order to test the accuracy of the model, it has been applied to a firm in packaging industry and successful results has been obtained.
