CLASSSIFICATION OF THE PROGRESS SYMPTOMS OF CITIES IN TURKEY, BY USING THE FACTOR ANALYSIS METHOD, AS A PART OF THE POLICIES OF REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT

Abstract

The fact of regional development is an phenomenon that increase gradually. From past to present, people care about regional development and study on it both in the world and in our country. To serve this purpose, development agencies were established, structural fund was supplied by Europian Union, and development policies were made. In this way, the regional development differences were tried to reduce to minimum. Accordingly, the aim of this study is to define the level of socio-economic development in 81 cities by using the datas from 2016. Results obtained and the results of the study done in 2012 will be compared. Previously, by taking into consideration the funds supplied to our country with the help of Europian Union and structural fons, the effect to development of cities were tried to observe. During evaluation and interpretation stage Factor Analysis was used. As a result of this econometric analysis the socio-economic level of our 81 cities were revealed and development rankings came up. In this study, to determine the underdevelop areas in Turkey 38 socio-economic factors of 81 cities were used. Ranking shows while first ten developed cities are respectively Istanbul, Ankara, Izmir, Antalya, Bursa, Konya, Kocaeli, Mersin, Mu?la and Adana, the last 10 cities are back to front Ardahan, Tunceli, Mus, Hakkari, Kars, Igd?r, Bingol, Agr?, S?rnak and Bitlis. When we compare the 2016 rankings with the 2012 ones, it is seen that 31 cities improved, 44 cities degreaded and 6 cities remained same.
