In the realm of art and aesthetics, the concept of culture emerges as a dynamic phenomenon reflecting the tastes, lifestyles, preferences, and all abstract and concrete values of the society in which it exists. Music, in particular, embodies these attributes, transforming and evolving over time. In this context, the societal characteristics of all civilizations that have existed in Turkey for centuries have been mirrored in classical Turkish music and Turkish folk music, which are rooted in the traditions of Turkish culture. These attributes have deeply influenced traditional Turkish music. Over time, traditional Turkish music has undergone structural changes, affecting all its dynamics, including educators, students, composers, and performers. This study seeks to answer several questions using descriptive analysis techniques and a survey model: What factors have influenced the development of Turkish music from past to present? What is the role of cultural policies in the evolution of traditional Turkish music? What are the positive and negative impacts of traditional and methodological education on traditional Turkish music, and how do these affect the quality of education? Written sources analyzing Turkish music policies, practices, outcomes, and challenges throughout Turkey's history have been reviewed. The study interprets the current status of traditional Turkish music, explores its transmission to future generations, and discusses necessary actions for its preservation. Unlike previous studies, this research aims to contribute to the field by providing a contemporary evaluation of the current state of traditional music as it strives to adapt to the changing global order. It is intended to serve as a resource for Turkish music researchers to understand past and present studies and to develop new approaches in the field.
