Abstract

?skilip, the oldest town in Çorum, is also one of the members of the Association of historic cities. Here, the process of one building in the historical centre from home to the art house is explained. This house is a traditional Turkish house which cannot be reached with definite knowledge about its construction year, and which is similar to the other ?skilip houses as the construction technique and the material but the land situated is totally unique. It is empty for many years. Because of this reason and also its location, the house remains a mystery. In collaboration with the Eyüpo?lu family members and the municipality of iskilip, the restoration work was completed. The house was worked to be a movement center where artistic activities will be carried out. Eyüpo?lu?s art consultant and technique team worked together. It is thought that this work will contribute to the cultural development of ?skilip. It is designed not only as an exhibition space but also as a place where people -who will work for here- are trained and where artists and the people gather and meet. Without interfering much the material of the structure, its labor, its construction technique, its size and its shape of the modular living, the first step was taken toward becoming a center of handicrafts, painting and music. This work aims to contribute to the concept of sustainability to some extent. Culture, one of the most important branches of the sustainability, will show continuity here.
