The Role of Social Capital on Academic Employment: A Study on Departments of Management of Universities in Turkey

Abstract

In this study, the role of social capital is examined on the academic staff that employed in the Departments of Management of Universities in Turkey. Firstly, the concept of social capital is explained and then knowledge of the literature is given on the impact of social capital above finding job. Later, the lists of top 20 universities are reached which established before 2000 by University Ranking by Academic Performance Research Laboratory in Turkey (URAP) published in 2015. From this list, department of business academics’ graduation data are collected through the website of 12 universities which can be accessed and a data set is formed. The data set is examined by chi-square analysis and it is reached the results that the university academic staff selection behaviors do not differ from each other. In addition, it has also been determined that universities employ 59% of their graduates.
