AN ANALYSIS OF CHANGE IN THE EXPORT STRUCTURE OF TURKISH ECONOMY

Abstract

Competitiveness of countries in international trade is of great importance in terms of sustainable economic growth and social welfare. For this reason, countries are developing many policies and strategies to increase their international competitiveness. In this context, in this study, changes in the export structure of Turkish economy are analysed by using the indices such as Lawrence index, trade specialization index, resources-based export share index, low-medium-high level technology exports index, diversification index, average ubiquity index and export sophistication index. As a result of the study, according to the data of the analysis period of the Turkish economy, it is necessary to develop international competitiveness especially in high technological products in exports. Especially the rapid progress of competitors necessitates to develop more effective policies and strategies in this field.
