Abstract

The globalizing world and rapidly developing information and information technologies have caused a significant increase in internet usage. This change has brought many innovations and conveniences to people's lives; but it also brought with it some problems. The internet, when used in a healthy way, helps children and young people guide their experiences, adjust their speed, and use many skills such as reading, writing, preference, and segmentation while doing research. Uncontrolled use of the internet has negative effects on children and young people regarding their physical, psychological, social and mental development. Students use the internet mostly for entertainment purposes rather than searching for and learning information. This results in them spending more time on the internet. Unhealthy internet use causes disruptions in social relations, decreases in academic achievements, musculoskeletal problems due to spending too much time in front of the computer, eating and sleeping problems, obesity due to physical inactivity, and eye and vision problems in primary school students. In this study, the problems and risks that primary school students will encounter as a result of internet use were evaluated and solution suggestions were presented.
