Abstract

With the advancement of technology, access to information has become easier and globalisation has led to an increase in social competition and changed the qualifications expected from 21st century individuals. Digital transformation has enabled technological developments to be widely used in the field of education, and distance education technologies have found a place in the education system thanks to the web network. This transformation has caused the concept of education to gain a new dimension and technology has become an integral part of education. A reflection of the integration of technology into education has been seen in the structuring of distance education with modern methods. Especially in countries with a large population, the difficulties in the demand for education met by formal education have revealed the necessity of various approaches. The distance education model, which dates back to the early 1800s with the development of technology, aims to eliminate time and space constraints, to provide education to a large mass of people at an affordable price and to ensure equality of opportunity. For this reason, distance education is becoming more widespread and gaining importance. There is not enough research conducted by teachers in our country about distance education applications, which emerged as an important alternative to support formal education, lifelong learning, professional development and when face-to-face education is not possible. In this study, the effects of distance education applications on primary school students and classroom teachers were examined, positive and negative aspects were discussed and suggestions were made.
