Science and Non-Science Teachers? Views about Earth Science Diagrams

Abstract

Earth science is very important for all human-beings. Visuals also have an importance place in learning and teaching science. In this study, an aspect of teachers? perceptions of earth science diagrams was studied. The research took place in Turkey. The sample of the research was 30, 15 of which were science teachers and others were non-scientist teachers. At the beginning of the study, earth science diagrams of in the middle school science textbooks were chosen by the researchers. Then the chosen diagrams were presented to the teachers and ?what attract your attention in those diagrams? asked to them. The data was treated by qualitative data analysis (open coding). It is clear fact that science teachers have more knowledge than the other group teachers. However, the study showed that teachers need an education about the process of constructing and reading diagrams.
