Abstract

Human development is a multidimensional concept including a long and healthy life beyond an increase in income per capita access to information, a decent standard of living, and guaranteed democracy. The human dimension of the development entered the agenda of The United Nations within the 1990s, and the Human Development Index was mentioned for the first time in 1993 Report of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP). This study accepts social gender inequality as one of the major actors of human development; and is based on the approach which emphasizes the necessity of women’s participation in the economic and social sustainable development process. Within this context, the aim of the study is the identification of the relationships between human development index and social gender inequality index by means of panel regression analysis. The analysis was performed for the years between 20102014 setting two different panels for developed and developing countries, relations of statistical significance for both country groups were obtained and interpreted.
