Abstract

Political communication methods have continuously changed and transformed throughout history in line with the conditions of the time, technological developments, and societal needs. This study examines how the concept of political communication has been shaped by different communication tools and methods since the existence of power and power relations; and how it responds to the requirements of our time within the framework of new media. The role of new media in today's world and its intersections with political communication are evaluated in detail. The effects of social media use, which has a relatively recent history in the world and in Turkey, on political communication are analyzed based on the practices of political actors and events. The scope of influence of political communication is examined from the past to the present in light of historical information, survey studies, and data collected in online environments. In particular, how political communication is positioned in the context of new media, along with its advantages and disadvantages, is discussed; and assessments are made on its possible future effects.
