Suicide is not solely committed by mentally ill individuals who have negative life experiences. Even individuals we consider mentally healthy who struggle to cope with intense stress can resort to suicide. Therefore, regardless of the circumstances, suicide and its causes constitute a highly significant social phenomenon that requires in-depth investigation. In this regard, this article examines suicides, which are the product of authority and the unbearable pressure it places on women.
This article examines the female suicides depicted in the novel Snow from a sociological and psychological perspective. The study particularly focuses on the effects of authority relations on women; it discusses the relationship between suicidal behavior and the intense and persistent pressure exerted on them by patriarchal structures, social norms, and power relations. Within this framework, the study examines from an academic perspective how the structural inequalities and mechanisms of oppression to which women are subjected undermine their psychological resilience, and it aims to contribute to raising social awareness.
