Abstract

The Historical Peninsula is one of the best known conservation areas in the historical context of İstanbul. This area is settled continually by many and different civilizations from past to present. As a result of this continuous settlement, the historical peninsula had a multi - layered texture. The traces of multi-layered texture can easily be examined in the Atatürk Boulevard in the context of 3 different historical periods named as Byzantine, Ottoman and Republic. This multi-layered character of The Atatürk Boulevard is examined especially in the context of the ottoman and the republic period. The historical buildings located in this area dated to ottoman and republic period are determined, and essential principles of a integrative conservation approach determined in the context of the historical - multi-layered character of this area.
