Abstract

The aim of this study is to investigate the motivation levels of the primary school teachers working in the field of education and to examine whether they differ according to various variables. Descriptive screening model was used in this study. The universe of the study consists of primary school teachers who work in official primary schools in Beylikdüzü, Esenyurt and Avcılar districts of İstanbul. The sample of the study consisted of 250 primary school teachers working in official primary schools in Beylikdüzü, Esenyurt and Avcılar districts of İstanbul. Personal Information Form and Primary School Teachers Motivation Scale were used as data collection tools. Primary School Teachers Motivation Scale is a four-dimensional scale which is positive attitude towards profession, appreciation and happiness, occupation avoidance and assimilation. The data in this study were analyzed in SPSS 24 package program. Percentage and frequency of descriptive statistics were used for demographic data. Data were also analyzed by T-Test and ANOVA. As a result of the data analysis, it was found that the motivation levels of the class teachers were high. The motivation levels of the primary school teachers show significant differences in the sub-dimensions of motivation, appreciation and happiness, occupation avoidance and occupation assimilation. The motivation levels of the primary school teachers don’t show significant difference in sub-dimensions of gender, marital status, educational status, the duration of their service at the school, the level of the instructed class, the socioeconomic status variable.
