EMPLOYING OPPORTUNITIES IN TURKISH MUSIC INDUSTRY IN THE CONTEXT OF URBANIZATION

Abstract

Music industry of a city is close related to its population and development level of industry and economy. That can be sad, the music industry of metropolises of Turkey has developed highly. Nevertheless, opposite to metropolises, little cities music industries are developed parallel to its population and economic capacity. This study aims to analyze the differences between the metropolises with relatively smaller cities in terms of job opportunities in the music industry. Also this study based on interviews conducted face to face with musicians in different cities of Turkey. During the field-work a semi-structured interview form was used and totally 83 musicians were interviewed with. Differences between metropolises and little cities that mentioned above, interests the musicians directly who work in the music industry. Comparing to little cities, metropolises have a big music industry. Nevertheless, employment opportunities in the little cities of Turkey don’t seem big and various. Also these limited employment opportunities are constricted into a short period of year. The employment opportunities in the metropolises have a grand range from cafe-bars to the radio and tv programs. These opportunities also expand to all periods of the whole year quite equally. Nonetheless the musical events of the small cities of Turkey don’t have a grand range and these events are most likely consisting of wedding entertainments.
