A SHORT EXPERIMENT ON ART AND CRITICAL ART THEORY

Abstract

Art which emerged with the existence of human beings has been defined in many different forms in the light of various principles throughout history. Art is always assumed as a vital necessity that plays an effective role in self-expression. The artwork shows parallelism with the creator’s aesthetic understanding, creative power and cultural accumulation. The power of expression and the genius of the artist are in the foreground of the creative process of an artwork. Art undoubtedly contains the reflections of the society in which it was born and developed. A world without art is unthinkable and the art cannot be glorified without criticism. Art criticism takes place in the form of analyzing, explaining, understanding and evaluating an artistic work with all its details. In order to encourage the art and the artist to be more beautiful, to increase the aesthetic pleasure of the society and to make the society better, art criticism should be should be take place within certain theories and principles. In this study too, the concepts of art, art work and artist are examined and various thoughts on the definition of these concepts are given. This issue should be addressed particularly in institutions and organizations that offer art education and should be one of the compulsory courses in education. In this study, the concepts of art, artwork and artist are examined and the opinions of the thinkers who have left lasting impressions on the definition of these concepts and on the philosophy of art about art criticism in the historical process are compiled and presented. Art has always been the key criterion for evaluating a society's level of development throughout history. Criticism has significant influence on the development of art and transcending itself.
