Do Students Need Academic Anxiety and Motivation for Success?

Abstract

In this study, the relation between school success and academic anxiety and motivations of health management students are researched. The sample of the research consists of 102 first grade students of Süleyman Demirel University at Health Management Deparment. In the study ?Academic Motivation Scale? which is developed by Vallerand at al (1992) and of which adaptation to Turkish is made by Karagüven (2012) is used with the purpose of measuring academic motivation level and ?Research Anxiety Scale? which is developed by Büyüköztürk (1997) is used to measure academic anxiety level of students. Academic motivation is concluded to be formed by the inner motivation, external motivation, prove oneself and lack of motivation as consequence of the Factor Analysis. As for academic concern, it has resulted in a single factor structure. Academic anxiety level of the participants is determined ?low? and they are motivated rather externally. The relationship between school success and research anxiety of students couldn?t have been established. And only inner motivation of all motivation sources is seemed to be related with school success at a certain level.
