Abstract

Travelogues, one of the oldest cultural products, are one of the most important literary genres that convey the historical adventure of mankind to the future. In recognizing what is different during the life journey in the world, the human being leans towards the direction of the different one, and transmits the interesting aspects of the one that has a certain value in this difference to its own culture. Travelers, the most famous heroes of this mysterious journey, are the people who transmit today?s world to tomorrow. Evliyâ Çelebi's ten-volume Seyahatnâme (travelogues) is the very precious piece of our literature on the travel genre Evliyâ Çelebi?s Seyahatnâme has the characteristics of a rich library which will be a source for many fields. Seyahatnâme left us a rich heritage in terms of legends, one of the oral cultural products. In this study, the legend of Kapanî Deli Sefer Dede which takes place in Istanbul and Algeria and takes part in Evliyâ Çelebi?s Seyahatnâme competing with the works written in the travelogue genre in the world will be analyzed in terms of archetypal symbolism.
