ANIMAL FOOD CONSUMPTION HABITS IN THE AEGEAN REGION AND EFFECTS ON MICROBIOLOGICAL QUALITY

Abstract

The aim of this study is to determine the consumption profiles of the public who live in the cities of Aegean Region (İzmir, Aydın, Muğla, Uşak, Denizli, Manisa, Kütahya, Afyonkarahisar) and how the preferences of the public effect the microbiological quality of animal based food groups (dairy products, meat and its products, seafoods, poultry products) consumed by the public. . It is also aimed that to determine the effects of the consuming habits to the microbiological quality of animal based foods and to expose the correlations among the public health, consuming habits and product hygiene variables by using statistical models. For this purpose, 1600 house were visited and questions about food of animal origin were asked. Besides, one related food sample was collected from each house and all the samples were analysed for 3 microbiological parameters. According to the results we got it was determined that consuming habits individiual demographic features of the people located in Aegean region were closely related with the hygiene status of the animal originated foods that they have consumed.
